Dallas, TX (PRWeb) January 31, 2007 -- The editors of the travel Web site sixnewthings.com have selected their “12 Most Intriguing New Things for 2007”. sixnewthings.com (www.sixnewthings.com) each month identifies six intriguing new things in 70 different locations across North America and the Caribbean. Access to all 70 destination pages is free to those who sign up.
Among those making the 2007 list of the dozen best are an architecturally avant-garde museum in New York, a cutting-edge restaurant set to debut in Toronto and a new Rosewood resort on Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
The new building for New York City’s New Museum of Contemporary Art, expected to open in The Bowery this fall, features the gravity-defying contemporary design of Tokyo-based architects Sejima+Nishizawa/SANAA. It will also be the first art museum below 14th Street constructed from the ground up since 9/11.
The Toronto restaurant Colborne Lane is expected to open this spring. Overseeing the cuisine will be chef Claudio Aprile, whose “mad scientist” experimentations with food at his former restaurant, Senses, catapulted him into the category of culinary rock star.
Meanwhile, when the Rosewood Mayakobá opens on Mexico’s Riviera Maya this September, it will feature suites, villas and a spa that are situated on individual islands and navigated by
canopied skiffs.
Other things opening in 2007 that made the editors’ “most intriguing” list are:
* The Grand Canyon Skywalk, a horseshoe-shaped, glass-enclosed walkway extending 70 feet out over the canyon’s rim in Northern Arizona;
* Shakespeare in Washington, a six-month-long tribute to the Bard that will feature innovative programs by some 60 arts organizations in the Washington D.C. area;
* The world premiere this summer in the Los Angeles area of “A Waitress in Yellowstone”, the first musical written by legendary playwright, David Mamet;
* The Las Vegas Springs Preserve, a 180-acre tribute to sustainability debuting this summer that will include “green” museums, botanical gardens, galleries, trails and concert venues.
* Olympic Sculpture Park, the recently opened adjunct to the Seattle Art Museum that has transformed a site along the downtown waterfront of Seattle from an industrial brownfield into a symphony of sculpture.
Rounding out the selections for the “Twelve Most Intriguing New Things for 2007” are:
* The Creation Museum, a new complex soon to open near Cincinnati that is committed to countering evolutionary natural-history museums with dioramas and kiosks promoting the literal interpretation of the Book of Genesis in the Bible.
* The city of Kansas City, Missouri, which this year alone will see the debut of a new sports arena, college basketball hall of fame, an advertising icon museum, a major expansion of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, and a nine-square-block mixed-use project in the heart of downtown.
* The new Victory Media Network in Dallas which, when it opens in March, will be the first large outdoor digital-arts gallery to employ multiple high-definition screens on movable tracks;
* The inaugural and cutting-edge Manchester International Festival in Manchester, England. Taking place this summer, it will be the world’s first international festival of original, new work.
The entire list, and stories detailing what makes each selection so intriguing, is available at:
