Food Product Development Company Leads In Innovation

(PRWeb) March 13, 2007 -- Leading food product development company, PTM Food Consulting of http://www.foodconsultant.biz is paving the way with new technologies in the food, beverage and dietary supplement industries. Many of the new technologies company president and expert food scientist Pete Maletto is working on are developed around upcoming trends in the food product development industry.

Some of these new technologies include the use of functional food ingredients that provide a benefit for the consumer. One of those food trends is the inclusion of Omega 3 fatty acids in the food or beverage product development process. "We are seeing consumer knowledge of Omega 3 health benefits continuing to skyrocket, so we are utilizing them in various foods and beverages we are developing for our customers and they are seeing significant growth in these products. Some of these products we have developed are milk, ice cream, baked goods, and even omega 3 infused chocolate candy," said Maletto.

Other technologies that are continuing to show profitability for food manufacturers are the inclusion of various fibers in foods and beverages that provide specific health benefits for the consumer. Some of the benefits of increased fiber range from the promotion of regularity, to the lowering of cholesterol. "I am now using several new types of fibers that provide a health benefit to the consumer that they can feel and notice after eating the food, which can increase consumer loyalty to my client. Some of these fibers we are using come from modified maltodextrin, cellulose or resistant starches, all which can add fiber to any food or beverage virtually undetectable to the consumers palate, but beneficial to their blood sugar, intestinal health and blood lipid levels," said Maletto

The biggest trends going on right now in the food and beverage industry surround the functional food marketplace. Consumers are continuing to look for foods that are good for them and provide a clear health benefit. PTM Food Consulting has been leading the way in functional foods because of their vast experience in dietary supplement ingredients, which gives them a distinct advantage when formulating these nutraceuticals in foods and beverages. With over 20 years experience in dietary supplement formulations and over 15 years in food product development they have the expertise to make foods that have a functional purpose.

Texture, aroma and exoticism, perhaps using new, antioxidant-rich fruits such as the açai berry, have been key areas for development for the company within health and indulgence trends. Maletto also claims that raw organic foods are also continuing to climb up the appeal chart for new trends in the food industry.

"I am of the opinion that people are motivated by good tasting food, and the functional technologies we implement becomes a normal part of their diet. Taste will always be first and foremost the most important part of the consumers buying decision," Maletto said.
