'San Francisco Chefs. Food. Wine.' Presents Heirloom Tomato Week, a Premier Event by Visa Signature®Email 50 Million Daily - FREE! San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 23, 2008 --
SAN FRANCISCO EVENT: HEIRLOOM TOMATO WEEK
The National Restaurant Association estimates that the tomato salmonella outbreak has cost the food industry at least $100 million. In an effort to provide some relief to local tomato farmers and promote one of the most celebrated summertime ingredients, San Francisco Chefs have banded together to create Heirloom Tomato Week - a restaurant promotion that features 52 of the most popular restaurants in the city showcasing heirloom tomatoes from local farmers in signature dishes or full tasting menus.
In addition to heirloom tomato inspired dishes, diners who visit participating restaurants during the promotion and pay with their Visa Signature card will also receive a commemorative book featuring all things tomato, including special recipes from the chefs and restaurants involved in the event.
PARTICIPATING CHEFS & RESTAURANTS:
Heirloom Tomato Week and the commemorative book feature over 52 prominent chefs and restaurants, including Joey Altman of Miss Pearl's Jam House, Chris Cosentino of Incanto, Bruce Hill of Bix, Traci des Jardins of Jardinière and Acme Chop House, and Craig Stoll of Delfina. A full list of participating restaurants can be found here (http://sfchefsfoodwine.com/).
EVENT DETAILS: The Heirloom Tomato Week promotion will take place in the San Francisco Bay Area from August 14th - 24th. Reservations can be made through OpenTable.com (http://www.opentable.com/promo.aspx?m=4&pid=294).
THE BIG PICTURE: SAN FRANCISCO CHEFS. FOOD. WINE.
What: Heirloom Tomato Week is the first of three seasonal promotions being planned within the San Francisco chef community. Subsequent events will feature Dungeness Crab in January, 2009, followed by Strawberries in April. Each promotion will also offer commemorative books featuring Chef recipes and stories designed around the seasonal ingredient. The books will be given to diners who eat at participating restaurants and pay with their Visa Signature card.
These events will culminate in a first of its kind, three-day food and wine event: San Francisco Chefs. Food. Wine. The Weekend Affair.
The event will be August 7th - 9th, 2009 in the epicenter of the city. A tasting tent on Union Square will provide the primary location for the affair with surrounding venues and restaurants throughout the city hosting additional events.
Why: San Francisco is the perfect location for a high-profile, national Food & Wine Event. Not only does San Francisco breed innovative and masterful chefs, but the City by the Bay is also at the forefront of the organic, slow food movement, and is ideally situated between the bounty of the Central Valley, the idyllic Pacific Coast, and the stunning landscape of the vast wine regions.
Who: Organized By: Kevin Westlye, The Golden Gate Restaurant Association.
